I, Réka, arrived in Italy to begin a new life with my Pier in February 2002. I did not speak Italian and could not stand doing nothing, so I started studying this beautiful Italian language, taking courses, listening to the radio, and watching TV. This was the 3rd time I was studying a new language so I was already a master of what works better for me.
It was a tragedy for me not being able to communicate with people, so after only three months my communication skills were good enough so I could understand people and make myself understood when I needed to go food shopping. I wanted to get myself a job as soon as possible, but unfortunately, we soon understood that I couldn’t get one because I was an extra-EU citizen.
Practically with my Hungarian nationality in 2002, I could only work in Italy with a residence permit, which in my case would only obtain if we were married. So the decision to get married in June 2002. We organized the wedding in two and a half months! Everyone thought I was pregnant, actually, we just wanted to have a life together.
Well, just not to miss out on anything, we organized a great party! The number of friends was greater than that of family members, friends who came from all over the world to celebrate with us. Since that time, for some reason, the “Réka & Pier” have become synonymous with fun and party! The day of our wedding was a great day; we had a hell of fun.
In a moment of tranquility, Pier asked me “In 10 years would you marry me again?” I said “If we are still together, of course.”
That day has arrived in the blink of an eye; ten years have flown by between the birth of our daughters, work, and daily life. Given that many of our friends live all around the world, we decided to give a long notice that we were planning to celebrate our 10th anniversary so they had enough time to organize their holidays for 2012. Given the responses that we received, we knew we were planning another big party.
Obviously, the day of the party arrived quickly and we arranged everything here at the Winery, just friends, and no family! A mega grill, plenty of wine and beer, music and a great party atmosphere. Some friends from Holland, Los Angeles, Slovakia and England arrived one day before, so the party started with them on Friday evening. The next day all our friends arrived. We were 38 adults, 16 children I believe, including Italians, Hungarians, Brazilians, Japanese, Americans, Dutch, English, Swedish, Venezuelans, and Swiss.
It was the hottest day of the year and of course were all dressed casually for the party. There were two inflatable pools, at the beginning only for the children who with much joy abused of them, then towards the evening we all ended up inside, adults and kids all mixed together to cool off! The image of flip-flops floating, water gun war between the two pools, people who were thrown in, people who have been waiting all day to sit in it … it was real fun!
There was a magical, extraordinary and happy atmosphere. Our home seemed like a happy paradise where all those who entered left outside their thoughts and their difficulties and had a great desire to undress from everyday life. The differences in culture and language were not a problem, everyone was talking to everyone, and we ate, drank and danced all together. There were people who we have not seen since our wedding, people who did not know each other but soon became friends, it seemed normal and natural, and it seemed that we all had a great desire for human contact, as it once was. We partied from 11am until 3am. We ate 44kg of meat, lost count of
There were people who we have not seen since our wedding, people who did not know each other but soon became friends, it seemed normal and natural, and it seemed that we all had a great desire for human contact, as it once was. We partied from 11am until 3am. We ate 44kg of meat, lost count of amount of vegetables and bread, about 100 bottles of Prosecco and other sparkling wines and 18 liters of beer … not to mention water a go-go!
The next day we found a garden to clean, people with “tired” heads and energetic children who slept enough! Just to remind us that the world goes on even though it was nice to stop it for a day. Ten years of marriage as ten years since Renzo has “decided” to leave us his legacy, and given the magical atmosphere we like to think that he also partied with us.
ps.: We prefer to not show pictures of this party to keep our friends’ privacy!
