No matter how constant or inconstant we are in sharing our life at Sfriso Winery through Social Media, there are always things that do not get posted in real time. Here are some of the things that have kept us busy these past 3 months.
In March the vineyard by the winery was completely uprooted. A hard but necessary decision Pier took to complete our pursuit in making wines that are native to our land and territory. So we uprooted because there were vine types that no longer fit with our future. In June the new field was planted with three types of grapes: Verduzzo Trevigiano, Cabernet Franc, and Refosco dal Peducolo Rosso. Here is are some pictures that show how this project is evolving:
Sometimes we forget to take pictures of our tastings. Sometimes we are so into the company that we don’t remember that we should take pictures, and sometimes it is also a question of privacy for those who are having fun and enjoying our wines. But here are some pictures from a special tasting we did at Keller Estate in Petaluma, California this past June. Ana, the owner of Keller Estate, invited us to showcase our wines to her friends and clients. She organised a fantastic evening in her amazingly beautiful winery. We called the evening “A Venetian Wine Tasting at Keller Estate”. We obviously encourage all of you to go visit her if you are in Sonoma! Photo courtesy of John Corcoran.
During the summer we had many planned and unplanned tasting at our winery, mainly tourists visiting the nearby beaches, Venice or even Verona. These included groups of British, Belgian, Danish and Swedish and unfortunately, we do not have pictures of these events but we hope they all had fun!
We have also been invited to do tastings in Stockholm and Belgium! No photos from Stockholm as pouring our wines was more important than taking photos. But here are some photos from Belgium, a beautiful setting with swimming pool and garden hang-out areas. Thank you, Gert for inviting us!
This year harvest was quick and easy. A few years ago it took us at least 3 weeks straight if weather allowed us, but as that never happened we would be busy with it for nearly 5 weeks. This year it was just half day machine picking Prosecco. Why? Because thankfully we have 5 hectares less of vine fields as part of our business strategy aims at balancing demand and supply. Our production was too much for the quality of products we aim to make, so selling 5 hectares of vines that were not producing quality wines we expected was a great decision. The new field will start giving us some grapes in about 3 years and will reach its full potential in 5 years.
Next year’s Prosecco supply is safely fermenting in the winery and smells really good too!
